Roberto Velazquez – Principal, Senior Benefits Consultant

Licensed Insurance Agent – CA, HI

Mr.Velazquez founded BeneResource Group in 2002 and holds over 25 years of proven leadership experience in the Financial Services Industry.  He holds extensive experience in working with large, diverse organizations such as, Merrill Lynch, UBS, Chase Manhattan and Bankers Trust and achieving operational excellence.

Prior to starting BeneResource Group, Mr.Velazquez was a regional wholesaler with Lincoln Financial Group, and was responsible for their West Coast Retirement Sales.  His responsibilities included the oversight of the various wire houses and educating of Financial Consultants about 401(k) plans.  Prior to Lincoln Financial Group, Roberto was the retirement specialist for Merrill Lynch’s Newport Beach, CA office and responsible for training financial consultants on the firm’s in-house programs, ERISA and coordinated sales presentation.  In 2008, Mr. Velazquez changed his focus from 401(k) plans to Health and Welfare Benefits. Mr. Velazquez attended Pace University in New York, NY.

His duties include Managing Client Services, Group Benefits Renewals, ERISA compliance advisory and operations.


Brian Blalock

Mr. Blalock is a Senior Vice President and Actuary at Verisight with over 28 years of experience as a health actuary. Brian provides health actuarial consulting services for health insurance carriers, managed care organizations, state departments of insurance, medical groups, self-insured and fully insured plan sponsors in the private and public sectors, Taft-Hartley funds, and others.  He has comprehensive experience in all aspects of health insurance, with a particular emphasis on valuation of liabilities, product development, pricing, and forecasting.

Prior to Verisight acquiring RSM McGladrey’s Human Capital Services, Brian was with McGladrey for 3 years. Before McGladrey, Brian was a consulting actuary with another major accounting firm, a national benefits consulting firm, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, and a commercial health insurer.  He has also been a consulting health actuary to the State of Illinois.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics & Computer Science from the University of Illinois and is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries.


Diego Velazquez, JD

R. Diego Velazquez is Managing Partner at Jaffe & Koumourdas, LLP, providing strategic direction and development of all aspects of the firm’s practice. He received his J.D. from the George Washington School of Law in 2002 and his B.A. from Rutgers College in 1999. Mr. Velazquez has diligently represented clients for more than a decade in all of his firm’s practice areas. His core practice areas include litigation, insurance, business, real estate, estate planning, and entertainment law. Mr. Velazquez also leads the firm’s anti-fraud practice group, which investigates and pursues fraud claims on behalf of clients. BeneResource Group is pleased to include Mr. Velazquez’s legal expertise to our advisory team.


Jeff Ludwig

Mr. Ludwig brings 15 years of advanced experience in finance, computing, and health care.  His extensive background began with Vice President positions at Credit Suisse Securities and later Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO) where he managed $22 billion derivatives-based enhanced equity index product with 155 bp average annual alpha.  He was also responsible for launching seven new mutual funds spanning international equities, real estate, commodities and TIPS.  Additionally, he maintained active as a proprietary quantitative trader in the global index arbitrage group focusing on intraday futures trading.  Mr. Ludwig then went on to managing large portfolios at several other prestigious financial institutions such as Millennium Partners, L.P., Barclays Capital, and SAC Capital Management.  Here he continued to expand his breadth of knowledge in the financial sector, managing $5 billion treasury bond basis strategy and $100 million commodities arbitrage strategy.  This also included quantitative futures strategies spanning equities, fixed income, commodities, and volatility.  Currently, Mr. Ludwig is Director of Jump Labs at Research Park in Chicago, IL.  In this role he is a leader of new endeavors to establish epicenters for excellence in high performance computing, and machine learning promoting advances in high frequency trading, entrepreneurship, and health care.

Mr. Ludwig has a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and completed his thesis on algorithms for low power multimedia devices.  During his studies, he published 12 journal articles and secured one U.S. patent.  He was the Valedictorian of Manual High School, Peoria, IL and is a proud Eagle Scout.


Jason DeLeon, MD

Dr. DeLeon is an emergency medicine board certified physician who obtained his MD from the University of Iowa in 2006. He completed his residency at the University of Florida in General Surgery and Emergency Medicine and during this time conducted extensive research in a broad array of areas such as afrin and croup, the pathological basis of Alzheimer’s disease and pathological treatment, atherosclerosis, and neuroplasticity. It was these contributions along with his solid academic performance that lead to his recognition with several notable awards such as Outstanding Teaching Resident, Outstanding Clinical Resident, and Excellence in Medical Education. Additionally, Dr. DeLeon was admitted as a member to Academic and Professional Societies such as EMRA, ACEP, SAEM, Sigma Xi Honor Society, and Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honors Society.

Dr. DeLeon’s extensive studies and research lead him to Emergency Medicine Attending Physical roles in Alabama, and now currently in Florida, where he practices at Florida Emergency Physicians (FEP). As an attending physician at FEP, he has also taken on the roles as SAMC Credentials Committee Member, SAMC ED Stroke Champion, and SAMC ED Coding & Billing Liaison and in addition to his board certification, has obtained certifications as an ACEP Fellow, ACLS, ATLS, and PALS.
